Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program Assistant Location Lake City, FL : Job Title: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program Assistant (40 hours per week January thru April) Date: December 2025 Reporting Relationship: Position reports directly to the Executive Director in partnership with UF/IFAS Extension Columbia County Purpose and Scope: The VITA program provides free tax preparation assistance to individuals and families with low to moderate income. The VITA program is vital to delivering service to those who most need tax assistance and cannot afford the services of a paid preparer. Through the Virtual VITA program, IRS-certified preparers use technology such as video chat as well as in person contact to assist taxpayers. This position will require excellent organizational skills and communication skills as well as technology skills. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program Assistant will work as part of a multi-county/multi-state team facilitating, and supporting programmatic leadership. Essential Functions: Site coordination: 45%

• Must complete and pass required IRS tax preparation certification including advance tax preparation and site coordinating.
• Must be proficient in computer operations including Microsoft TEAMS
• Must be able to troubleshoot basic computer/connection problems at off-location sites.
• Other events as planned

Reporting and Administration 50%

• Attend VITA meetings
• Review returns for quality and accuracy.
• File returns in accordance with all IRS rules.
• Aggregate data from sites.

Other Duties as Assigned: 5% Normal Work Schedule: This is a part time position requiring up to 40 hours per week January-April 2024. Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have a high school diploma. Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred. VITA experience helpful.

Travel: To surrounding counties (Columbia, Suwannee, Lafayette, Hamilton) to provide VITA services at local Extension offices. Travel reimbursement provided.
