Office Clerk - Patient Assistance (Job Overview)

Schedule: 8AM-5PM

The Patient Assistance - Office Clerk at Legacy Community Health is a pivotal role that serves as the first point of contact for our patients, either via phone or in person. As such, this position plays a fundamental part in creating a positive first impression and fostering a lasting relationship between patients and our healthcare providers. Based at our Montrose Clinic, you are the ambassador of our clinic's welcoming and patient-centric environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming calls, route them appropriately, and ensure efficient communication.
  • Perform client intake procedures and notify appropriate staff of client arrival.
  • Enter patient information accurately into the necessary databases.
  • Assist the volunteer coordinator with managing volunteers effectively.
  • Adhere to appointment scheduling and cash handling procedures as set by management.
  • Maintain the clinic lobby in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Process lab results as directed by the Practice Manager.
  • Participate in the Performance Improvement Program.
  • Demonstrate dignity and respect towards patients, families, visitors, and employees.
  • Promote effective team collaboration to achieve departmental goals.
  • Work within a primary care medical home, supporting a team-based approach to culturally sensitive care.
  • Attend required safety training and apply general and job-specific safety practices.
  • Operate equipment safely and uphold Legacy's exposure control plans.
  • Perform all procedures using correct techniques and protective equipment.
  • Ensure a safe patient environment by implementing control measures.
  • Attend annual education programs and continuously seek professional development.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pleasant, professional, and articulate phone voice.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and handle multiple calls or patients concurrently.
  • Proficiency in data-entry with high accuracy.
  • Computer literacy and experience with multi-line phone systems or switchboards preferred.
  • Capability to quickly learn necessary systems and processes if no prior experience.
  • Basic skills in mathematics, alphabetical/numerical filing may be required.
  • Adept at managing multiple deadlines and making informed decisions.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
