Senior Medical Coder – Specializing in Neurosurgery or OB/GYN (Remote)

• Pay Rate: $40/hr (non-certified) | $44.28/hr (certified)

ROLE IMPACT
The Specialty Coder Sr. is responsible for performing advanced coding for high-dollar and complex specialty cases in Neurosurgery or OB/GYN . This position ensures coding accuracy, compliance, and data integrity across inpatient and outpatient encounters. The role is vital in maintaining accurate reimbursement, optimizing revenue capture, and ensuring adherence to official coding guidelines and payer standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Review clinical documentation and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT codes for neurosurgery or OB/GYN surgical and diagnostic procedures.
• Abstract and validate patient and provider data within the EMR to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% or higher, adhering to ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and AMA CPT guidelines.
• Collaborate with Health Information Management (HIM) and documentation teams to ensure quality and reduce denials.
• Code both inpatient and outpatient high-complexity accounts, ensuring compliance and audit readiness.
• Communicate with physicians and clinicians to clarify documentation for precise code assignment.
• Support audits, data integrity checks, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
• Participate in training and continuing education to stay current on coding standards and payer regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Education: High School Diploma required (must be submitted with application).
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent coding experience specializing in Neurosurgery or OB/GYN .
• Certification: Active coding certification required (CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or equivalent).
– OB/GYN applicants: COBGC certification through AAPC preferred.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with EPIC EMR and electronic coding platforms.
• Residency Requirement: Must currently reside in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, or New Mexico.
