401 East Pratt Street Baltimore MD 21202The Maryland Department of Commerce is seekingqualified applicants for the position serving as Managing Director of theTourism Department (TD) within the Office of the Secretary.
This is an executive position whose primaryfunction is to direct and manage the operations of the Tourism Department to grow Maryland as a highlycompetitive desirable and successful position will plan develop implement review and revise policies and objectives forthe Tourism Department in alignment with the mission of the agency.
Duties include:
Candidates must possess excellent interpersonalwritten and oral communication skills; demonstrated track record of successoperating in the tourism environment working with private public and government officials legislative andstakeholders; considerable knowledge of and experience with the state level tourism industry its cultural community and unique tourism assets; demonstratedsuccess in managing and motivating a staff; knowledgeand experience of the legislative and budgeting processes methods approaches andprocedures involved in tourist promotion; knowledge of advertising and tourismmarket techniques practices and methods Ability to successfully handlemultiple high priority assignments. Proficiency Microsoft Office Google orother relevant software is required.
Education: A Bachelors degree from an accredited college oruniversity in Business Marketing Communications Public Relations or relatedfield
Experience: Ten (10) years of direct experience in state level tourism that includes tourism promotion developing and managinginnovative and strategic tourism marketing programs and five (5) years supervisorymanagement experience. Experience in economic development programs to includefiscal and budget management.

1. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans policies rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the requiredexperience.
Preference will be given to applicantswho possess the following preferred qualification(s).Include clear and specific information on your application regardingyour qualifications.
1. Familiarity with Marylands tourism industry geography architecture and heritage.
2. Advanced degree in tourism management or related field.
3. Knowledge of and experience with Marylands legislative process and policy makers.
