POSITION DUTIES

The Field Enforcement Bureau, which is a regulatory and law enforcement component of the Comptroller of Maryland, is searching for its newest team member that will function as a License Specialist in our Licensing & Registration Unit! Additional details about the job duties of this position are as follows: The incumbent will process applications for those license types issued by the Comptroller. These include motor fuel seller's licenses and registrations, motor carriers-International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) permits, and slot machine licenses for certain authorized fraternal organizations. The Comptroller also administers various license types issued by the Clerk of the Courts, such as Traders, Restaurant, Chain, and others. Additionally, the Licensing Unit is responsible for the distribution of cigarette tax stamps to authorized wholesalers of cigarettes. The selected candidate will have daily contact with the public, business community, and other governmental agencies. This position also provides support for other units within the Comptroller's Office, such as Central Registration, Taxpayer Services, and Compliance. The incumbent will be expected to provide exceptional customer service to the public and work in a team atmosphere.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience involving one or more of the following areas: customer service, telecommunications, fiscal clerical or clerical related work.

NOTES:

  • Candidates may substitute additional education at an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty credit hours for one year of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in accounting and budget classification or accounting and budget specialty codes in the financial clerical and technician field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.   • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook
  • Experience processing large volumes of work independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Additional customer service experience
  • Knowledge of Motor fuel laws and regulations
