Position Description:

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Louisville (UofL) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Organic Chemistry, broadly defined, with start date of August 1, 2026. The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous research program, mentor Ph.D., M.Sc., and undergraduate researchers, and commit to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

The University of Louisville (UofL) is a public research-intensive university with a Carnegie designation of R1. With a student population of more than 24,000, UofL is located in the city of Louisville, the largest city in the state of Kentucky. The Department of Chemistry, currently consisting of 20 faculty, has a strong undergraduate program with majors in both Chemistry and Biochemistry, as well as an excellent graduate program offering M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. The newly renovated Chemistry Building houses many shared facilities, including 700 MHz, 500 MHz, and 400 MHz NMR spectrometers, an EPR with X-band and cryo data collection capabilities, and a single crystal X-Ray diffractometer. Additionally, the department is home to the Center for Regulatory and Environmental Analytical Metabolomics (CREAM), a high-resolution facility for mass spectrometry. Beyond the department, the university houses several other user facilities and research centers, including Micro/Nano Technology Center, Research Computing Center, Brown Cancer Center, and the Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research. UofL also has a highly research-active School of Medicine and the J.B. Speed School of Engineering for potential collaborations. In addition, UofL hosts teaching and learning resources to support innovative teaching practices, including the Delphi Center and the Belknap Academic Classroom Building fitted with modern active learning technology. The city of Louisville is home to a wide range of industries, such as polymers, catalysts, batteries, automotives, and advanced manufacturing companies.
